Activity details and how to support
During the Open Days of our school, the student ambassadors would hold a series of game booths for guests to participate in. For example, solving number locks and Rubik’s cube only with helpers’ guidance and without actually seeing the items. We would like to raise awareness of protecting our eyes and cherishing our visions through the activities we prepared. We would rise the funds through an QR code for the visitors to scan and support us in the Orbis Student Ambassador Campaign.
My reason for supporting Orbis
More often than not, when we are asked about social service, a wide variety of target audiences would pop up in our mind, including the poor, the elderly and the orphaned. However, most likely we tend to forget one significant group of the disadvantaged, one that affects approximately 2 billion people around the world, which is the visual impaired. Among this 2 billion people, we may often come across half of them in our daily lives, especially in school when many of us are wearing glasses, but for the other half, we are seldom approached by them, if not never. They comprise of the population with serious eye diseases.
In school, we are rarely approached by the ones with severe eye disabilities. Therefore, we wish to establish a close bond between our students and the visually impaired and nurture their sense of empathy and compassion towards this population. And among all charity organisations, we believe Orbis is the most reputable and prominent global charitable organisation that stand up for this group of disadvantaged. They travel to every corner of the world to serve and treat any one of them and convey the message of love and support towards them to society. With such rich experience, we are sure that by promoting Orbis in our school, more and more of our students will follow our footsteps and begin to look out for this often neglected community.
